In the wake of this cooperative’s recently concluded $4M stock offering, Equal Exchange created a single document that explains our unorthodox capital model. While the stock offering was the largest ever by a worker co-op in North America some will be surprised to learn that outside investors actually provide only half of all the capital for Equal Exchange. In fact, these stock sales are only one of five or six key components to how we capitalize Equal Exchange. For example, some will be surprised to learn that the worker-owners provide almost a quarter of all the capital, nearly $7M to date. Most of that comes through the consistent re-investment of profits.
